Hello and welcome to this blog, where I post my travels camping throughout Michigan. I can usually be found with my loyal companion, Moose, in a van, exploring the state’s campgrounds, natural attractions, and scenic spots. Michigan is a treasure trove of outdoor adventure, offering a vast array of camping options, from rustic tent sites to RV resorts with desperatly needed coin-operated showers. The blog’s main purpose is a personal one, a place to store the stories as I go. But it also aims to be a guide for the best campsites, to share tips, and reveal some hidden Michigan gems.

Morel Mushrooms & The Northern Lights in Arcadia MI

Since 2022, the morel mushrooms seasons have been dry for us. Were we too early, too late, or maybe the weather wasn’t right? – it’s always hard to pinpoint an exact reason. Morels move season to season as well, making them hard to track.

Rivers, creeks, stars, coyotes, bacon wrapped brats, PokémonGo and good fucking vibes. Last Seaton visit of ‘23 included hiking out to “Little Mac”, a large wooden suspension bridge that unites the Manistee River Trail with the North Country Trail.

Sulak & Gleason’s Landing

A visit to two new sites that looked promising, Sulak Campground and Gleason’s Landing! Both offered me and Moose access to the river, though by very different means.

Seaton Creek July 4th, 2023

Another trip to Seaton over the holiday weekend filled with Oberon, Petoskey Stones, and possible bear scat!

Michigan’s Only Lower Peninsula Waterfall

Sara’s Falls is a small waterfall hidden in the Manistee National Forest. Me and Moose set out to find the lower peninsula’s only known natural waterfall.

Hog Island Campground

In the UP off Highway 2, Hog Island Campground is a hidden gem and perfect waypoint. Sites are secluded and right on Lake Michigan.

2022 Morel Mushroom Season

How to find morels and cook them up! Morel mushrooms are abundant in northern Michigan and this year, we found plenty to keep us snacking.
